The law of vibration, the claim that everything in the universe vibrates at a specific frequency, that human thoughts and emotions have their own vibrational signatures, and that matching your personal frequency to the frequency of your desires will attract them, is one of the foundational concepts of manifestation culture. The neuroscience of vibration is real and extensively documented: the brain does produce measurable oscillations, neural populations do synchronise their firing at specific frequencies, and these frequencies do correlate with distinct cognitive and emotional states. What the science does not support is the extrapolation from neural oscillation to cosmic vibration, the claim that emotional states emit frequencies that interact with external reality, or the idea that tuning your vibration can attract wealth, health or love. This article examines what the brain's oscillatory activity actually does, why the concept of vibration was borrowed from physics and misapplied to consciousness, and what the real neuroscience offers that is more useful than the metaphysical version.
