Invitation to a 120-person pilot
We are looking for up to 120 adults living with tinnitus to help us pilot Presenting Mindfulness for Tinnitus, a structured, evidence-informed self-study course from Mental Health Matrix.
This is an invitation to explore supportive mindfulness, not a claim that tinnitus is “all in the mind”, or a promise to cure tinnitus or make the sound disappear.

What this course is for
The course explores how mindfulness may change the way the brain and body respond to tinnitus, including its relationship with stress, sleep, anxiety, mood, concentration, bodily tension, and everyday life.
It is designed to complement, rather than replace, appropriate medical, audiological, or psychological care. No previous mindfulness experience is needed.
Who can take part: adults aged 18 or over who experience tinnitus, can decide for themselves whether to participate, and are willing to engage with the course and progress measures. You may pause or stop for wellbeing reasons.
The commitment
Work through 20 online chapters, approximately 20 hours of core learning. One chapter a week over 20 weeks is suggested, but you can move faster or take longer.
Try a short mindfulness practice, typically 10-15 minutes on most days, alongside workbook exercises and reflections.
Complete an initial questionnaire, brief 0-10 progress ratings, a midpoint check after Chapter 10, a final questionnaire, and a feedback form.
Your feedback, whether positive, negative, or mixed, helps us understand what is useful, what is not, and what should change.

A personal and professional project
“I have lived with tinnitus since I was nine, following a perforated eardrum. This project is personal to me as well as professional.”
Gareth Strangemore-Jones, clinical psychotherapist and mindfulness teacher
Chapters consider the stress-tinnitus feedback loop, shifting attention, acceptance, sleep, tinnitus spikes, anxiety, low mood, bodily tension, catastrophic thinking, concentration, social connection, self-compassion, and integrating mindfulness with audiological care.
Access and completion
Upgrade release timings, final features, and retail prices are indicative and may change during development. Your entitlement to released upgrades at no extra cost remains.
Complete all 20 chapters, the final questionnaire, and feedback form, and choose either a personal certificate or a professional CPD certificate recording approximately 20 learning hours.
You will also receive a one-use code for one additional self-study course from the MHM catalogue, for yourself or one family member or friend. It is valid for 12 months from issue.
Your feedback does not need to be positive. Honest positive, negative, or mixed feedback is equally valuable and will not affect your certificate or reward.
The code has no cash value and cannot be combined with another promotion. It excludes therapy, subscriptions, live cohorts, events, physical products, and programmes requiring separate admission. A CPD certificate records learning, not a qualification or permission to practise.
Privacy and your choice
Taking part is voluntary. You may withdraw without giving a reason, and withdrawal will not affect access already granted. Information that has already been irreversibly anonymised and combined into analysis cannot be removed.
Identifying details are kept separately from research responses wherever practicable. With explicit consent, anonymised or grouped information may be used in reports, presentations, publications, and research arising directly from this pilot.
Optional permissions for anonymous quotations, future related research, follow-up contact, and receiving a plain-English findings summary are separate choices. They do not affect participation, access, certificate, or thank-you reward.
Read the privacy policyHow to take part
Download and read the participant information and consent form.
If you wish to take part, complete the fillable PDF, including the required consent statements and signature, then save it.
Email the saved form to gareth@mentalhealthmatrix.com with TINNITUS PILOT as the subject.
The pilot team will review your returned form and send the course-access code and instructions separately. Using an access code does not record research consent; that is handled through your completed form.
Stop any practice that feels unhelpful, orient yourself to the room, and return to an ordinary activity. Seek advice from a GP, audiologist, therapist, or another qualified professional if symptoms or distress persist or worsen.
See a GP if tinnitus is regular or constant, worsening, or affecting sleep, concentration, anxiety, or mood. Ask for an urgent GP appointment if it beats in time with your pulse. Go to A&E or call 999 if it follows a head injury, or occurs with sudden hearing loss, facial weakness, or vertigo. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999. In the UK, Samaritans are available on 116 123.
Pilot messages and questionnaires are not monitored continuously and are not an emergency service.
